Teaching staff in the Faculty of Languages and Cultures were delighted to welcome a delegation led by the Indonesian Minister for Education and Culture, Professor Muhammad Nuh, and the Indonesian Ambassador, His Excellency Teuku Mohammad Hamzah Thayeb. In addition to learning about the teaching and research of Indonesian studies at SOAS and a tour of the Indonesian holdings in the library, discussions were held about future co-operation between SOAS and the Indonesian Ministry for Education and Culture.

A key part of the visit was a meeting between the Minister’s delegation and a number of students in one of the language labs. As well as having the chance to demonstrate the Indonesian listening materials which were created through a Centre of Excellent Teaching and Learning (CETL) funded project, it was a great opportunity for students to demonstrate that  they could speak confidently in Indonesian with the Minister, the Ambassador and other members of the delegation.
